P.436079 from November 2020 &#8211; The Polish Patent Office granted our University a patent for the invention entitled \u201cMethod of measuring the temperature in the friction zone, taking into account the parameters of the roughness of the friction surfaces\u201d.<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n<p>The object of the invention is a needle thermocouple for measuring temperature in the friction zone. On its basis, a new measurement method has been developed that allows for accurate and stable measurement of temperature in the friction zone of various friction systems, e.g. brakes, friction clutches, and sliding bearings. The authors of the study are: Oleksii Nosko, DSc, PhD, Eng (currently at Gdansk University of Technology), Wojciech Tarasiuk, PhD, Eng from the Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Prof. Andrey Nosko.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2013 Application of our measurement method may bring measurable scientific and environmental effects. For example, it will allow for accurate prediction of friction coefficient and wear intensity, which will enable further work on improving the design of friction systems. Moreover, it will facilitate accurate prediction of emission of wear particles to the atmosphere, which will open the way to designing more ecological friction systems<\/em> \u2013 explains Wojciech Tarasiuk, PhD, Eng.<\/p>\n<p>The needle thermocouple, developed by the specialists from Bialystok University of Technology, belongs to a class of the so-called wear thermocouples, in which the measuring joint is still formed on the friction surface. This makes it possible to carry out measurements while the friction surface is being worn out. Unlike the existing wear thermocouples, the measuring tip of the BUT needle thermocouple is based on a &#8220;wire in hollow cylinder&#8221; design, i.e. its cross-sectional shape is circular.
