The Department of Materials and Production Engineering has been operating since the beginning of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, in 1949.

Currently, the Department employs 19 people: 1 professor, 3 associate professors, 10 assistant professors, 1 assistants, 4 scientific technical support.

Research and scientific profile

The Department of Materials and Production Engineering conducts research focusing on the three main areas:

Modern materials

Metal-matrix composite materials with filler of natural origin
High entropy alloys
Surface modification methods
Biodegradable polymers and composites
Materials characterization

Technologies

Methodology for improving the accuracy of fitting mating freeform surfaces
Improving the accuracy of machining on milling machining centers
Applying of reverse engineering technique for reconstruction of complex technical objects

Materials degradation

Analysis of friction and wear processes of selected materials
Mechanics of materials – experimental methods, numerical modelling, fluid mechanics in multiphase liquids
Research on the possibilities of improving the technical condition of cracked crankshafts
